Rich fruit, unoaked, and being outside of a more recognised region, great value!
"This was love at first taste! Such intensity but with freshness that derives from the very high altitude vineyards. It has character and interest at an affordable price."
From very old vineyards on the Portuguese side of the Spanish border south of the Douro, at over 700m. This is out in the sticks in extremis, but Rui Madeira is injecting a new life and sense of purpose into these ancient vineyards. Tempranillo with Touriga Nacional and other local varieties, Rui combines his love of Ribeira del Duero wine styles, with a stamp of his own sense of place. Rich fruit, unoaked, and being outside of a more recognised region, great value.
Food suggests: any hearty country fare, from Steak and Kidney Pie to lamb shanks.

'Elfa' is the old coloquialism for manual planting of a vineyard to a field blend. Registered organic, and the vineyard worked bio-dynamically, Elfa is an extraordinary red wine, matured without oak.
One of the most characterful wines on our list. The Baga grape variety gives vibrant red berry notes, with that wild streak from low tech winemaking.

Rich cherry fruit, hints of capsicum, clove and black pepper on the nose with a palate of smooth berry fruit, robust and full-bodied with ripe well-balanced tannins and a refreshing sappy flavour to the finish.
Intense aromas of plum and blackberries, with vanilla and spice. The palate has some lively fresh cherry characters, elegantly combined with a lovely dusty flavour. Medium-bodied on the palate with silky ripe tannins and a long, broad finish.
Deep ruby in colour with crunchy dark fruits and a little spice, works well with tomato based dishes and meaty fish.
