Deep coloured and intensely perfumed, this rounded, rich red has generous fruit on the palate, ripe, soft tannins but good structure and a chunky blackberry and spice fruit character. Good length on the long, warm finish.

John says: "This may be a big wine but it has perfect balance of fruit, fresh acidity and tannins."

Vigneti Zabu Il Passo Nerello Mascalese 2015

This is a young estate in southwestern Sicily, whose vineyards caught the eye and winemaking talents of Valentino Sciotti...

Valentino (of Gran Sasso, Vesevo, Masseria Pietrosa and Lamadoro) saw they had great vineyards and a good winery but were missing the necessary expertise to make wines the market required.  Valentino and his team of young winemakers have taken the raw materials and transformed them into wines that people want to drink.

As soon as the grapes were ripened, the canes were cut and the grapes allowed to dry naturally in the hot Sicilian sun. When they had lost about 30% of their weight, they were harvested, pressed and underwent a long maceration on the skins. The wine was then aged for six months in barrique before bottling.

Deep coloured and intensely perfumed, this rounded, rich red has generous fruit on the palate, ripe, soft tannins but good structure and a chunky blackberry and spice fruit character.  Good length on the long, warm finish.
