Tempranillo and Graciano grown at higher altitude provides delicate ripe fruit and a backbone of acidity which keep the styles fresh and appealing.
Basque Rioja is the high ground of La Rioja. Vineyards sweep down from the slopes of the Sierra Cantabria in the north towards the Ebro river in the south. Poor chalky clay soils give low yields and high quality.
Juan Jesus Valdelana is the current boss of this small family Bodega originally established in the XVI Century. Housed in a traditional building in the centre of Elciego they cultivate grapes from their own vineyards and from leased ones. Their vineyards consist of around 30ha of Tempranillo, Graciano & Viura in 3 diffent locations close to Eltziego (Basque spelling).

The nose is deep, fruity and delicately spiced whilst the palate provides flavours of cherries and silky, fine grained tannins. An overall feeling of freshness, this wine oozes delicate elegance.
Medium body, light and silky texture. Very fruity with very fresh red fruits. The tannins are very fine and fresh leaving a feeling of daintiness and softness.

Rich cherry fruit, hints of capsicum, clove and black pepper on the nose with a palate of smooth berry fruit, robust and full-bodied with ripe well-balanced tannins and a refreshing sappy flavour to the finish.
Intense aromas of plum and blackberries, with vanilla and spice. The palate has some lively fresh cherry characters, elegantly combined with a lovely dusty flavour. Medium-bodied on the palate with silky ripe tannins and a long, broad finish.
Deep ruby in colour with crunchy dark fruits and a little spice, works well with tomato based dishes and meaty fish.
