Harvested at optimal ripeness resulting in a harmonious, ideally balanced Clos Roareti. Concentrated and layered offering intense dark berried fruit supported by fine oak. A silkily textured, full bodied red that will develop favourably over the coming years. (March 2021 DS) With this vintage wild boar, venison, prime roast beef, meaty stews. Drink from 3 years after the vintage up to 8 years and more if well stored.

The first vintage of Clos Roareti, our single vineyard Merlot, was 2006, the grapes come from the historic monopole, Cru vineyard of Rovereti, in Negrar, Valpolicella. In this centuries old walled vineyard, we began to plant Merlot from the late 1990s onwards, a grape variety which is perfectly suited to the climate and the vineyard’s red clay soil. The resulting wine has rich, full bodied and complex Merlot characteristics on the nose and the palate alongside the aromatics of oak ageing, it is a unique departure from the lighter styles of Merlot from the Veneto region. Clos Roareti is not made every year but only in those years in which we believe the Merlot grapes reach the highest level.

We recommend decanting and serving around 16° C (or 60° F) and as an accompaniment to roast game or to red meats such as rack of lamb or fillet mignon.
