Named after Danie de Wet`s wife, Lesca; this lightly wooded Chardonnay, exuding lively aromas of citrus, green apple and butterscotch on the nose. It has the elegance and intensity of the great white Burgundies with a complex, racy palate of lemon, peach and ripe apple flavours with nutty and mineral notes. The weight of the wine is perfectly balanced by a good acidity and finishes long and elegant. Food pairing Pasta with light sauces, pork stuffed with prunes and grilled seabass.

Folklore has it that Danie de Wet’s ancestor travelled back from Burgundy with clones of Chardonnay tucked away in his trouser pocket. Their heritage can be traced back to 1694 when their forefathers settle in the cape and today the wine estate is run by Danie and his two sons, Johann and Peter.

A truly family run business, Lesca de Wet, runs the marketing side of the company; indeed she has one of Danie’s award winning Chardonnays named after her.

Located in the Robertson Valley overlooking the Breede River, the De Wetshof Estate creates a range of wines shaped by the diversity of site specific vineyards which are exposed on the slopes to the region’s chalk and limestone soil.

In 2016 Danie received the prestigious 1659 Honorary Award, the recipient of which is chosen by a panel of wine industry stalwarts and presented to an individual who has created a legacy and played a profound role in the South African wine industry.
