Havana Club Rum was created in Cuba in 1934. Originally produced in Cardenas, Cuba by the famous Arechabala family, the brand was nationalized in 1960 after the Cuban Revolution at which point the the Arechabala family left Cuba for Spain and the United States. The brand was revived by the Cuban government in 1972 and is now leading Cuban rum in Cuba and in the world, continues to embody the heritage and supremacy of the Cuban rum-making tradition. In 1997 production has been based at a new plant in Santa Cruz del Norte. Since 1994, Cuban production and non-US global marketing of Havana Club been a joint partnership between Pernod Ricard and Corporación Cuba Ron.
