Luis Pato's flagship red comes from a selection of old vineyards and therefore different soil types, with all vines over 40 years old (and some much older). This includes a small part coming down from the top Pan and Barrosa cuvees. Stainless steel vinification with a over a year aging in used french barrels results in a fantastic red wine, so very typical of the region and the baga grape variety. The addition of Bical comes in the form of pressed skins. Luis believes the addition of tannin from white grapes enhances those of the red.

Produced using the Baga grape, planted in chalky-clay soils using vines with an average age of 40 years old. A first harvest takes place at the end of August for the production of sparkling wine (‘Espumante') from the same grapes. This increases the concentration and improves the maturation of the remaining grapes which are harvested at the end of September to produce Vinhas Velhas.

Vinified in stainless steel vats for 10 days and matured in used casks (650l of capacity) for 12 months.

To be served with gamey meats as well as other red meat dishes. It will last more than 15 years.
