Niepoort excel at Colheita (single vintage tawny) Ports. And this is one of their finest recent vintages. And, of course, it needs no decanting, and keeps well once opened. Possibly the most under-rated Port category in the UK, but deserves to be much better known. And compared to vintage ports, top quality colheita can be excellent value. Aged in lodge pipes (pipas, 500-550 litre old barrels) for a minimum of seven years, colheitas not only have to display the vintage on the bottle, but also the year the wine was bottled.

Colheita Ports are selected lots cask-aged Ports from a single vintage. Officially they can only be released 7 years after the harvest date. These will be bottled over many years until stocks are exhausted, and so will become more mature with each bottling. These are a Niepoort trademark and speciality, and each vintage should be taken on it's own merits.
