"The 'Little Brother' from Anwilka offering amazing value from this top winery!"
Seven kilometres from the ocean, the 48 hectare Anwilka Estate produces what Robert Parker deems "the finest red wine I have ever had from South Africa". The significant maritime influence in the Helderberg region guarantees exceptional fruit quality and, in the Bordeaux model, a second wine from the estate known as Petit Frère has been introduced to set a new benchmark in the quality for South African red wine.
“Petit Frère”, the 2nd wine from this property, is a tribute to Anwilka’s French Bordeaux heritage. The grapes were hand-picked from vineyards located 7 kilometres from the ocean, in Stellenbosch’s prime Helderberg region. The small crates of berries were sorted before and then again after destemming. Crushing and fermentation took place in stainless steel tanks, with gentle pump-overs and ten days of post-fermentation maceraction, enabling the soft extraction of colour and tannins. With production of approximately 40000 bottles, Anwilka is aged in 25% new French oak for 12 months.

Concentrated layered fruit on the nose. The palate is balanced with fresh acidity, supple tannins and elegant texture. Flavours of blackcurrant fruit, dark chocolate and toasted mocha are evident.
Dark brooding fruit follows through onto a structured, opulent palate. The midpalate is rich, textured and balanced with integrated acidity, cocoa powdery tannins and a definite cedarwood character derived from French oak.
This flagship wine is a tribute to the beautiful Tritonia, with its colorful flowers, of which eight different species occur in the Klein Karoo, the most complex and species rich arid area in the world.
